December 17, 2024 – Tuesday of the 3rd Week of Advent – O Sapientia (O Wisdom), the first of seven Advent antiphons. Mass reading selections and links to the total reading follow.
Genesis 49:2-10 – The choice of Judah, one of the twelve sons of Jacob, who was called Israel. “Judah, your brothers shall praise you; your hand shall be on the neck of your enemies; your father’s sons shall bow down before you. 9 Judah is a lion’s whelp; from the prey, my son, you have gone up. He crouches down, he stretches out like a lion, like a lioness—who dares rouse him up? 10 The scepter shall not depart from Judah, nor the ruler’s staff from between his feet, until tribute comes to him;[b] and the obedience of the peoples is his. (The Kingdom of Judah)
Psalm 72 – “O God, with your judgment endow the king, and with your justice, the king’s son; He shall govern your people with justice and your afflicted ones with judgment.”
Matthew 1:1-17 – The genealogy of Jesus, beginning with Abraham, according to Matthew. “17 So all the generations from Abraham to David are fourteen generations; and from David to the deportation to Babylon, fourteen generations; and from the deportation to Babylon to the Messiah,[h] fourteen generations.” (Jesus adopted into Joseph’s line of David.)
